Zipcar announced it has doubled its membership over the past year. Currently with 225,000 members, it is growing at about 10,000 members per month versus about 3,000 members per month this time in 2007. In an interview in the New York Times yesterday, Hertz CEO Mark P. Frissora was asked about carsharing, and he responded that:

PhillyCarShare, which has grown exponentially in the last several years, and has said that the higher gas goes, the more their membership ranks swell, has told their members about a negative they are now seeing to high gas prices, other than the price. In July’s newsletter, they mentioned this:
