Zipcar possibly coming to Nashville
Zipcar will be expanding to two Nashville-area universities this fall, Vanderbilt and Belmont, and are apparently in talks to add downtown Nashville:
The Downtown Partnership hopes to have three Zipcars available as of Sept. 1, said President Tom Tuner. On Monday, Turner got permission from the Metro Traffic and Parking Commission to use three downtown parking spaces.
The three spots are only for one year though, and may be taken away unless Zipcar pays for them after that. Although hopefully after a year, they will have many more than three cars in the Nashville operation.
Nashville has 40 bus routes, and one rush-hour only commuter service. Hopefully that is enough public transit to make a carsharing operation there sustainable.
